The previous Kalu Rinpoche was an eminent teacher to both Buddhists and non-Buddhists, and those people who saw his discipline, observed his mental state, and followed his teachings caused many people all over the world to bring their minds to peace and calm. Renowned as a master of both Karma Kagyu and Shangpa Kagyu traditions, his profound qualities brought inner peace to thousands of students all over the world, who greatly love him. This is the immediate reincarnation of that same highly realized master of Tibetan Buddhism. He has been trained from an early age in Buddhist philosophy and completed a Three Year Retreat according to the Shangpa tradition. When you receive teachings from him, it is not the same as from anyone else, so if you take this opportunity it will be greatly beneficial for your life.

FOUR DEITIES: His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche will bestow the empowerment and offer the explanation of the practice of the Four Deities Combined (Lha Shi Dril Drub), a profound Dharma of the Glorious Shangpa Kagyu. The Four Deities Combined focuses on the Dharma Protector Six-Armed Mahakala and the deities Vajrayogini, Avalokitesvara, and Green Tara, all combined into the Guru Buddha Vajradhara in an elaborate form of guru yoga practice.

LAMA LODU RINPOCHE will give a public Presentation to His Eminence Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche at KDK (1892 Fell St.) on the Monday P.M. following the Four Deities schedule and review his activity for almost fifty years, from when he first arrived at KDK in 1976 up until the present. We all humbly request and hope His Eminence will give some teachings and comments afterwards. If you would like to stay after for dinner, please let us know how many will be eating by leaving a message on the message line at (415) 752-5454. See article in this newsletter.

NIGUMA YOGA: The Rigorous Physical Yoga Training of the Six Yogas of Niguma originated with Niguma, an 11th-century realized Buddhist yogini born in a Brahman family in Kashmir. These 18 exercises are essential instructions for the supreme accomplishment of the path of liberation. They utilize our bodies as a method to cause the ‘prana mind’ to enter the central channel and untie the knots of the channels. The root texts of these practices are only transmitted orally. Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche will personally transmit the instructions for performing the yogas. As this presentation is being made over four days, all participants are urged to attend all sessions in their entirety. They are required to bring a six-layer (4.5” loft) zabuton cushion with them. These are readily available online from a variety of merchants.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Clothing for both men and women is to be a short sleeved cotton tee crew neck and cotton shorts that go to the knee. For three days prior to the start of the teaching, participants cannot consume alcohol or intoxicants, or smoke (tobacco, cannabis, vaping); likewise, they are to abstain from all meat products and oily, greasy, fatty foods.

Earlier this year, His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche led a Six Arm Mahakala practice retreat at Wangchen Rinpoche’s Ser Cho Ling retreat compound in North Fork, California. I really appreciate seeing His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche and top: H.E . Kalu Rinpoche with Lama Lodu Rinpoche, opposite of Wangchen Rinpoche at Wangchen Rinpoche’s Ser Cho Ling retreat compound; bottom: Six Arm Mahakala Shrine Wangchen Rinpoche together doing this profound practice of the Lord Protector Six Armed Mahakala, along with KDK Lamas and many KDK students, and everyone was very active with both of the Rinpoches.

On the occasion of His Eminence Gyalton Rinpoche leading the final consecration of the stupa in Rinpoche’s hometown of Martam, Sikkim, before an assembly of Sangha and laypeople alike, Lama Lodu Rinpoche gave a detailed introduction and history of His Eminence in Tibetan. Later, several of the attendees requested Rinpoche to translate his intro- duction so that everyone can understand. On this occasion, Lama Lodu Rinpoche was motivated to collect H.E. Gyalton Rinpoche’s story from a number of different sources and collected in one place, starting from his birth as the Mahapandit Jamphel Shenyen and up to the present. It is available at the KDK Website at this link: http://kdk.org/images/LifetimesOfGyaltonRinpoche.pdf
